Boondi Lassi

Salted Boondi Lassi

Lassi or spiced buttermilk is a good cooler during summer. Lunch for South Indians are always incomplete until they wash down with buttermilk. Good for weight watchers also as you can avoid the calories from sugar. Good for health also.

Ingredients:

1 cup plain yoghurt
2 cups cold water
1 small green chilly (optional)
1/2 tsp roasted cumin or jeera powder
1 small piece ginger
pinch of hing
salt to taste
1/2 cup Khara boondi or fried chickpea flour
1 tbps chopped coriander leaves

Method:

  • Soak boondi in half cup of warm water for 5-10 minutes. Squeeze out the water from the boondi and keep aside.
  • Beat the yoghurt and keep it aside.
  • Grind to paste green chilly and ginger.
  • Mix together the paste, yoghurt, cold water, salt, jeera powder (keep some for garnish) and hing.
  • Pour it in a tall glass and garnish with boondi and coriander leaves.
  • Sprinkle some cumin powder before serving.
