Nutty Porcupine Chicken

Chef Kunal Kapoor has always been one of my favorites. I came across a recipe made by him. Very innovative, thought out of the box.  This is not the exact recipe of his, as I have twisted and modified it. Added some nuts and made it a bit spicy as per my tastebuds.  Vegetarians can replace minced chicken with finely chopped vegetables and cornflour instead of egg.


500 gms minced chicken1 egg
1/2 cup mixed nuts (I used broken walnuts and pinenuts. You can use nuts as per your choice)
1/4 tsp chilli powder
1 big carrot grated
1 tbsp chopped ginger and garlic
1 tbsp chopped green chillies (increase as per your requirement)
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp extra hot chilli sauce (optional)
Salt to taste
2 tbsp cornflour
1 cup rice (soaked for 2 hours and drained)
1 tbsp oil


  • Mix together all the ingredients except the rice.
  • Grease your idli plates. Make small balls and roll it on the drained rice.
  • Carefully place the rolled balls on the idli plates.
  • Steam it for about 20-25 minutes.
  • Remove the porcupines  in a plate and serve it with sweet and sour sauce.

Its a good starter if you have guests at home or having a party.
