Bhelpuri, How to make Bhelpuri at home

Bhelpuri is a Indian savoury snack. It is made from puffed rice, sev which is made from gram flour and mixed with two type of chutney and other ingredients. In Mumbai, if you walk through the streets you can’t miss them and how much ever you try to control yourself you will find yourself savouring those tasty chats. It is quite easy to make bhelpuri at home. You have all the ingredients for making Bhelpuri at hand, you will be able to make it quick!! So let’s learn how to make bhelpuri at home.

2 cups of puffed rice
1 small onion chopped finely
1 small tomato chopped finely
2 green chillies chopped finely (Optional)
1 tsp chaat masala
1/2 tsp roasted Jeera (Cumin) powder
2 tbsp green chutney (Corriander leaf, mint leaf and green chilly paste)
2 tbsp sweet tamarind chutney
salt to taste
Chopped corriander leaves for garnish
silk sev (thin fried gram flour)
Khala namak (Black salt) to taste


  • Normally if you see the streetvendors they usually mix everything together with the puffed rice. But I like to go the opposite way.
  • In an large bowl, mix together the onion, tomatoes, green chilly, spicy green chutney, sweet tamarind chutney, salt to taste.
  • Now add the puffed rice to this mixture and mix it nicely.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl.
  • Sprinkle the chaat masala, roasted jeera on top.
  • Sprinkle some black salt. Garnish with corriander leaves and silk sev.

    Serve this with a nice hot cuppa of masala chai!! Enjoy.
